Art Therapy

Blue Poppy Monarch

Clients should know that artistic talent is not required to benefit from art therapy. Art therapy utilizes drawing, painting, doodling, and sculpting, and can be equally effective using journaling, poetry, memoir, music, creative writing, or movement. Art Therapists are trained in traditional talk therapy, as well as art therapy. Creativity is a powerfully human, universal impulse for self‑expression and communication. Words are often not sufficient in conveying deep emotion or in processing trauma. Art Therapy uses the creative process of art making to help tell life stories, foster communication and expression, enhance self-awareness, and facilitate change. I understand that sometimes a client would rather communicate without art making. It is always your choice.
